Announcement

Mental Health

Priorities:

Mental Health

I’m proud to be expanding behavioral health services in District 4 with a new Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) in Simi Valley. The CSU will provide immediate, short-term mental health care for individuals in crisis, helping them stabilize and return to their communities without hospitalization. It will improve care coordination with local providers and allow first responders to return to the field more quickly. Located alongside existing substance use treatment services, this CSU will be a vital, cost-effective resource for our community’s mental health needs

Economic Development

Priorities:

Economic Development

As a former business owner in Ventura County, I understand the challenges local businesses face and am committed to their success. I work closely with Chambers of Commerce and serve on the Economic Development Collaborative to promote business growth. I’ve advocated for reliable infrastructure, including addressing Public Safety Power Shutoffs and expanding broadband access. I’m also supporting tourism and the arts by growing the film industry and securing funding for local cultural institutions. My goal is to help businesses thrive through strong partnerships and proactive problem-solving.

Public Safety

Priorities:

Public Safety

Public safety has always been my top priority, and I’ve worked closely with law enforcement, fire, and emergency services to secure resources, advocate for funding, and push for wildfire preparedness. I’ve taken a strong stance on public safety policies, fought against Proposition 47, and successfully opposed AT&T’s attempt to withdraw critical telecommunications services in fire-prone areas. I regularly support and attend community safety events, including panels on fentanyl and wildfire preparedness, and advocate for first responders through fundraisers and mental health initiatives. I’m also working to bring vital services like a Family Justice Center and Crisis Stabilization Unit to East County to support residents in crisis. Additionally, I’ve helped secure suicide prevention measures and continue efforts to bring more county services closer to our community.

Water Sustainability

Priorities:

Water Sustainability

Water is essential to all life, and I am honored to represent the County Board of Supervisors on the Association of Water Agencies, where I stay informed on regional water efforts. I work closely with local water purveyors to ensure long-term access and sustainability. A top priority for my district is establishing a desalination plant to strengthen our water supply. I’ve long supported the Moorpark Desalter Facility and continue to advocate for its progress. The 4th District includes four water districts, two county-run and two locally managed.

HOW TO HELP YOUR LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTER: Ventura County animal shelters are at 143% capacity going into the July 4 holiday.

IF YOU FIND A STRAY DOG:

VCAS asks that individuals who find dogs who have gotten loose make every effort to reunite dogs and families outside of the shelter.

If you are able to secure the animal SAFELY:
- Create a found report at vcas.us/lostandfound
- Post to social media, including local Missing Pets pages and NextDoor
- Call phone numbers or scan any codes on their collar
- Canvas neighborhoods near where they were found
- Take the animal to a Veterinary Clinic to get scanned for a microchip.
- Make posters with bright backgrounds that include: 1) A single big picture highlighting the pet's face, 2) location found, and 3) your contact info.

If you are able to foster the animal until it can be adopted or responsibly rehomed, please reach out to discuss best practices.

Shelter locations remain open 9AM-6PM all week, with limited Animal Control Officer staffing at night. We appreciate your patience and dedication to caring for the animals and people in our community.

We will always accept sick, injured, or aggressive animals.

All of this information, additional tips, and a list of pets recently reported as lost or found is located on our website at vcas.us/lostandfound.

Help! We’ve reached 143% capacity and with the anticipated increase in lost pets due to 4th of July fireworks, we are in CRISIS MODE! To help ease the strain, we’re holding an EMERGENCY FREE* Dog Promotion June 27 – July 13. View dogs at vcas.us/dogs.
----------
*Promotions DO NOT guarantee the adoption of a shelter pet. All interested parties must participate in the full adoption process to ensure the best possible matches are made. Promotions do not include the cost of a pet license if applicable.
MYTH SURROUNDING FREE ADOPTIONS
There’s a persistent myth that free adoptions encourage animal abuse or neglect. This is simply not true. People with harmful intentions overwhelmingly avoid official adoption pathways which require screening and adoption counseling. They don’t want their pets spayed/neutered, nor do they want them microchipped where that animal can lead back to them. Instead, they seek (purchase) animals through unregulated sources like Craigslist.
Our adoption counseling process remains incredibly strong regardless of promotions, and we always reserve the right to deny an adoption if we don’t feel a good match has been made. Our priority is placing pets in safe, loving homes—we will never adopt out an animal simply to make space.
